Climate Creativity

About

Founded by Devin Finzer and Patrick Ouziel, Climate Creativity is an initiative to promote activism and awareness about climate change, with special attention given to projects and ideas that address the issue in creative, engaging ways. In reaching out to youth, our goal is to portray climate change as an opportunity for young people to come together with a common, invigorating vision. We believe that while the warming of our planet is a significant challenge, it is also an important chance to address related health, economic, and energy issues in an innovative, new way.

The site kicked off after Patrick’s and my carpool initiative at Miramonte High School. In addressing the issue of carpool at our school, we found that traditional methods of engaging students in environmental action often did not work quite as well as we originally hoped. Citing the contribution of transportation to greenhouse gas emissions and explaining the science of global warming didn’t always motivate our peers. But building on the sense of community at our high school and stressing the opportunities associated with making a positive environmental difference got more students engaged.

Patrick and I were able to gather a significant number of signatures, expand the percentage of carpool spots at our school, and promote a website to link potential carpoolers. Over the course of the project, Patrick and I learned that it takes much more than facts and figures to get young people enthusiastic about making a difference. Climate Creativity aims to promote imaginative ideas to engage youth in environmental activism.
